Rs one crore offered per acre of fertile land

Landowners in 11 villages on the outskirts of the City, whose properties have been acquired for the formation of the proposed Kempegowda Layout, can now claim compensation under three slabs. The three-slab offer comes in the wake of the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) hiking the land value in the 11 villages.

Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda is scheduled to inaugurate on Monday a BDA project on the improvement of the St John’s Hospital-Koramangala 100 Feet Road junction, which may involve a piece of land that the agency had told the High Court it did not need.

The BDA issued a land acquisition notice to the Indian Institute of Astrophysics for improvement of the St John’s Hospital-Koramangala 100 Feet Road junction, days after submitting before the High Court that the project did not require any land.

Glory of City’s largest lake far from being restored; Rs 1.91 crore goes down the drain

Despite spending Rs 1.91 crore, the rejuvenation of the Bellandur lake has been halted midway, states a Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report.
After the State government’s nod, the Bellandur lake, which is spread across 900 acres and is the largest in the City, was to get a facelift.

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is all set to chop down 66 trees and 154 saplings at Shamanna Garden near RPC Layout for the construction of a railway under bridge (RUB).

Having faced the wrath of civil society organisations and green brigades over the felling of 17 trees along the Sankey Tank Road for road-widening, the Palike has seemingly pre-empted hues and cries concerned people’s groups may raise this time around, by issuing a meeting notice to all the stake holders.

For green cause: Bangalore, Brikesh Singh knows all about scaling great heights to protect environment. Be it the UK Parliament or trees on the sides of Sankey Tank Bund Road – thankfully spared by the axes of the city corporation – he had used his skill to climb buildings and trees to spread awareness.

The move will save a number of trees that dot the stretch, from being felled

Raising voice: A woman ties a banner around a tree protesting against the axing of trees for the widening of Sankey Road, near Malleswaram 18th Cross on Wednesday.
