The marine environment is one of the most fascinating realm. Due to the physical and chemical conditions of the marine environment, almost every class of marine organism exhibits variety of molecules with unique structural features, which are not found in terrestrial natural products. Today researchers have isolated approximately 11,000 marine-derived natural products. (Editorial)

Ecosim simulation exercise was carried out for predicting over 10 years the changes in fishery yields in the multi-species and multi-gear marine fisheries of the Arabian Sea off Karnataka.

Concentrations of Hg, total organic carbon (TOC), Al, Fe and Mn were determined in sediment of the Amba Estuary between the mouth and the head over a distance of 24 km in December and May during 1997-2002. Temporal and spatial changes in metal concentrations appear to be due to sediment movement associated with tidal movements.

The zooplankton community of the salt pans of Bhayandar and Thane was studied based on the contribution of microzooplankton and meso-macrozooplankton. Population of microzooplankton was about 4 times more in Bhayandar as compared to Thane salt pan.
