The matter related to misuse of contract meant for dredging in the river bed of Subarnarekha - by using it for commercial sand mining activities.

Tender has been floated by the West Bengal Mineral Development and Trading Corporation Limited (WBMDTCL) for dredging/desilting/removal of the river bed materials from the Subarnarekha river at Sankrail,Howrah district.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT), July 27, 2022 directed  Inland Waterways Authority of India, Syamaprasad Mookherjee Port (SMP) and Transport Department, West Bengal to file standard operating procedure (SOP) with regard to prevention of accident on the inland waterways before September 13, 2022.

The matter related to old vehicles like Ambassador cars playing on the roads in and around the vicinity of Kolkata and Howrah guzzling petrol/diesel fumes and adding to the worsening air quality.

The NGT directed the state government to file an affidavit within four weeks stating what plans it has framed for such Ambassador cars to bring them within the environmental regimen.
