Drops Plan To Set Up Project In Khunti-Gumla After Tribals Refused To Part With Land

ARCELORMITTAL has finally called it quits at Khunti-Gumla in Jharkhand where it had originally decided to set up a 12-mtpa greenfield steel project at an estimated cost of Rs 50,000 crore. The MoU for the same was signed way back in 2005 and the site selected a year later.

Bokaro, March 14: Buoyed by the overwhelming response to contact programmes and health camps organised for the villagers of Jhumra hills, the CRPF and district administration yesterday convened a medical camp and janta durbar at Rehawan, about 135 kilometres from Bokaro steel city.

A new power plant was also in the pipeline.
