LUCKNOW: Even as rains and thunder showers continue to lash the state for the third consecutive day on Wednesday, killing six more persons, taking total death toll this monsoon to 24, the weatherman said that rains will continue at least for next couple of days.

AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi will lead a delegation of party leaders from Bundelkhand, UP and meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday to request a package for the rain deficient area.

LUCKNOW: With its long-held "poorest and most backward" tag, Bundelkhand, which sparked off a fierce battle between BSP and the Congress, could well be the fittest beneficiary under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS). Or so one thought.

However, the state met department predicted that eastern parts of the state would continue to get rains but Bundelkhand region, central and western parts might have to contend with cloudy skies with possibilities of rains at isolated places.

The fragrant smell of mud filled the nostrils of the denizens early Monday morning, announcing the arrival of the south-west monsoon.

The denizens, reeling under heat wave, were much relieved as heavy showers lashed the city for over one-and-half hours.

And for once no one complained as the mercury plummeted by five degrees.

NEW DELHI: In a bid to provide relief to seven drought-affected districts of Bundelkhand region and eastern Uttar Pradesh, the National Agricultural Bank for Rural Development (NABARD) has sanctioned Rs.246 crore.

LUCKNOW: The forest department has planned a second green mission for Bundelkand region. Beginning July 1, department will start the effort to make the region greener by more than 2.8 cr saplings. Last year's special plantation project, which was marred by controversies, has not deterred the department from going ahead second time.

A day after an MP from Uttar Pradesh got the post of Union Minister of State or Rural Development, the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) has loosened its purse and sanctioned Rs 246 crore for the state.
