Agartala: An alarming situation prevails in tribal hamlets in Tripura

March 9: Worship of ghosts, an age-old practice which almost went into oblivion, has returned with full fury in the hilly areas of Tripura as the medical care process extended by the state government has failed to contain the meningitis epidemic in the Longthorai Vally areas of Dhalai district.

Detection of meningo cuccal meningitis in two patients in the outskirts of Agartala has caused panic as the disease has already took an epidemic form in hilly terrain of Longthorai Vally in Dhalai district and claimed at least 17 lives as per official record, though unofficial sources puts the figure to 51.
