Given the tardy pace of work under Narmada Phase III, it seems unlikely that the benefit of Narmada phase III will reach the city people this summer.

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit announced in the Assembly today that the Delhi Jal Board has prepared a summer action plan to deal with water scarcity in the city.

The Chief Minister said that potable water is being supplied to 189 colonies through proper pipeline under the summer action plan and residents of these colonies have also been asked to get water connection.

KENDRAPARA: Though summer is yet to completely set in, Kendrapara district has begun feeling the pangs of water scarcity.

The State government has identified about 405 villages across the State where drinking water will be supplied through tankers this summer.

The estimated cost of the project is Rs 153.91 crore and a detailed report has already been prepared by the department of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj as per the guidelines issued by the Centre.

Drinking water crisis in Bangalore only seem to aggravate in the coming days.

'Privatisation alone cannot solve the problems of water supply in Bangalore as the corporates are profit oriented and lack social conscience.With water being one of the most essential necessities for life, the poorer sections of the society would find it extremely difficult to cope,' said Dr Rajashekhara Murthy, a scientist specialising in environmental sciences, from Canada.

This was stated by Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Taj Mohi-ud-Din in reply to clubbed questions by MLAs Mir Saifullah, Sajjad Kitchloo and Radhey Ram Sharma during Question Hour in the Assembly today.
