In the Rural Water Supply (RWS) sector sustainability of drinking water sources and systems are a major issue. As a consequence, ensuring availability of drinking water both in terms of adequacy and quality, on a sustainable basis, is the major challenge. Water quality is impacted due to ground water table falling due to excessive drawals.

Jamshedpur, March 31: The Mango Notified Area Committee has chalked out an action plan for tackling water crisis in the locality this summer.

Some of the proposed measures are installation of stationary water tankers, repair of defunct tubewells and floating a helpline to address water woes of the residents.

With the setting of summer, scarcity of drinking water commenced in different parts of Madhya Pradesh. The water crisis has also triggered violence. In one such incident, a teenager was brutally murdered in Indore on Wednesday in a dispute over fetching water.

Bangaloreans are reeling under an acute water shortage like never before. Borewells are drying up, water mafias are invading neighbourhoods and street wars triggered by water problems are breaking out everywhere. With the City bursting at its seams, the water crisis is surely not going to disappear in a hurry.

Khikiya: The Khirkiya Nagar Panchayat is supplying nearly 9 lakh litres of water every day in the city with a population of nearly 22 thousand people. The water supplied everyday amounts to 40 litre per person on an average, while the water necessity of a person during the summer season is nearly 100 litre.

The state government has sanctioned Rs 89 lakh 81 thousand to 38 urban bodies in 11 districts for transporting drinking water.

PARADIP: With groundwater level receding fast the slum areas of Paradip and coastal villages in Erasama and Balikuda blocks are in for a thirsty summer. Non-declaration of Paradip industrial areas as sweet water zone has only added to the hardships of the residents as several industries and fake mineral water making units use water at will.

BRAJRAJNAGAR: Summer has just begun but water- stressed Brajrajnagar is already feeling the heat.

Though political parties promise to mitigate the drinking water crisis during elections the assurances are gone with the end of polls and the denizens are left with parched throats.

Indore : Indore municipal corporation is carrying out a survey of areas in the city which are reeling under the water crisis. On the basis of survey report, the corporation will decided on plying tankers in the city.

The idea of groundwater recharging by harvesting rainwater is gaining ground in many cities and it is the only way to address the global water crisis
