BALANGIR: A big pond in the peak summer has been given to a person on contract for fishing at a time when locals are facing acute water shortage for bathing.

Nearly 5,000 people depend on the pond, situated in the heart of Kantabanji, the commercial town of Balangir district.

In spite of crores of rupees being spent on the construction of the Parsari Joshimath Potable Water Project, the residents of Joshimath continued to face shortage of water.

State has sanctioned fund to drill new bore wells

NIZAMABAD, April 19: Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) leaders tried to obstruct the Praja Patham, a mass contact programme in the district on Monday in protest against the delay in carving out a separate state for Telangana.

KRISHNAGIRI: The State Government has allocated Rs. 2 crore to tackle drinking water scarcity during summer in Krishnagiri district, said K.S. Sripathy, Chief Secretary, on Thursday.

Mr. Sripathy held discussion with all the District Collectors through video conferencing from Chennai.

Virudhunagar worst hit; funds for other districts after getting report

CHENNAI: The government on Thursday sanctioned Rs. 18 crore from the Calamity Relief Fund to overcome the drinking water shortage in 10 districts. Virudhunagar, Tiruvallur, Dharmapuri, Salem, Villupuram, Krishnagiri, Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Dindigul and Namakkal districts will be benefited.
