Taking a novel step towards conservation education the Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden has come up with a new publication Primates of Assam.

The booklet that contains details of nine primates found in different habitats of the State has been prepared by Narayan Mahanta, the Zoo DFO.

Noted expert on tobacco control, Dr Prakash C Gupta today focused on tobacco consumption in the Indian context and underlined the need for a rethink in control strategies. Delivering the Dr KC Borooah Foundation day oration at the Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute, Gupta remarked that the tobacco problem in India is unique, because it implies a vast array of smoking and smokeless tobacco products.

Rainwater inundating the roads is a regular feature in Guwahati, particularly in its central parts, during the rainy season. The Guwahatians hence lay more stress on keeping the city drains clean to make them able to carry the discharge of the rainy days. But the ongoing drain cleaning exercise undertaken by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has been resented by most of the city residents.

In view of the unprecedented dry spell coupled with depleting ground water level in Guwahati owing to shortage of rainfall, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has pressed into service two of its water tankers to supply water, more particularly in areas that are not covered by its water piped network.
