In the wake of tiger deaths in Kaziranga National Park, there is now a glimmer of hope. An initial survey under an ambitious project by the conservation group Aaranyak suggests that the park now possesses a healthy and stable population of tigers.

Underscoring the need for attaining a healthy agricultural growth rate for effectively addressing the concerns of poverty and hunger, Assam Governor Shiv Charan Mathur today said that horticulture, in particular, had immense scope for commercial exploitation.

Apart from their aesthetic and creative value, films on nature and wildlife could prepare an audience to effect change. In recent times with costs of production on a slide, filmmakers are creating films on environment that have empowered people and even impacted on policy. In a biodiversity-rich zone such as Assam, filmmakers and media professionals could perform a similar task.

KAZIRANGA (DERGAON), Feb 9 - 7th Kaziranga Elephant Festival got under way with a four-day long programme at Kaziranga National Park (KNP) from today.

Kaliabor MP Deep Gogoi formaly inaugurated the SHG mela at Kahara this afternoon. More than 150 SHGs participated in the mela.

Bokakhat MLA Jiten Gogoi opened the traditional food mela.
