The Department of Environment on Sunday fined two textile industries Tk 50.84 lakh in the Kalurghat industrial area of the Chittagong city on charge of polluting the River Karnaphuli.

A DoE team, led by its director (enforcement) Munir Chowdhury, fined the Sunji Textile Limited Tk 22.84 lakh as it was found releasing untreated chemical wastes into the river keeping its treatment plant off.
