Supreme Court has allowed Tata Steel to continue mining activities at chromite mine in Sukinda, Odisha, till May 9.

The extension is crucial as the temporary working permit, granted in March 2013 by the ministry of environment and forest (MoEF) to operate the mine, was to expire on April 12 and the application for its extension is pending with the ministry.

KALINGANAGAR: The upcoming steel hub in Orissa's Jajpur district appeared to be a war zone on Friday, with policemen surrounding hundreds of tribals, who were opposing the construction of a common corridor road to give access to Tata Steel's six million tonne proposed steel mill.

Tata Steel on Tuesday said that the work on its Rs 21,000crore Kalinganagar project in Orissa is likely start in April. The project has been already delayed by four years due to stiff resistance from locals over the issues of displacement and rehabilitation.
