Jamshedpur, Jan. 6: Saranda forests, that had lost its charm under the shadow of Maoist terror, seems to have come alive in the New Year with hundreds of picnickers thronging the hills to usher in 2010.
Over a dozen people have been reported to have suffered from itching and difficulty in breathing after gas leakage at Tube Division of Tata Steel here. According to the information, leakage of ammonia gas while transferring from a tanker to a storage tank in Tubes Division crated a uproar, however, timely intervention of the company authorities managed to control the situation.
Some chose to walk to meet the people. Others preferred to address the weekend crowd at public places. Whatever may be the mode of communication, all made the usual promises to solve water woes and power pangs.
Thus kicked off the campaign in the East Singhbhum district for the first phase of elections scheduled on November 25.

Ranchi/Jamshedpur, Oct. 21: After three years of wait, Jamshedpur can finally reap benefits under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
A memorandum of agreement to this effect was signed in Delhi today.
The JNNURM funds will, however, come with a rider. Only an urban conglomerate, excluding Tata Steel command areas, will be entitled to harness the money.
- Industry and forest departments join hands to utilise resource
Jamshedpur, Oct. 20: The industries department will work with the forest department to utilise bamboo resources to the hilt, in a bid to save the weavers in Manusmudia village in East Singhbhum district from penury.
A public-private partnership, it delivers water and power services to eight states. From maintaining the water system of Mysore to distributing electricity in Jamshedpur, JUSCO (Established 2004) has won the National Urban Water Award for 2009.
