Order of the National Green Tribunal (Eastern Zone Bench, Kolkata) in the matter of Sajay Laloo Vs State of Meghalaya & Others dated 19/01/2018 regarding establishment of STPs in the town of Jowai, Meghalaya. The affidavit filed by the Chief Secretary, Govt. of Meghalaya states that Jowai Municipal Board has set up common ETPs and STPs and the letter calling for expression of interest has been floated for engagement of a suitable and qualified consultant for preparation of the DPR.

JOWAI: Cleanliness in the entire Jowai town is now in a very bad state since the Jowai Municipal Board has stopped collection and disposal of waste material besides cleaning the Iawmusiang market area.

Garbage collected in various parts of Iawmusiang area have begun to emit foul smell sparking fears of severe health hazard among the residents. The Jowai Municipal Board which is responsible for collection and disposal of garbage from different localities of Jowai town has stopped the same citing acute financial crisis.

Illegal and unscientific mining of coal has threatened the very existence of the famous stone bridge over Thlumuwi river, 15 km from Jowai

This bridge on Jowai- Amlarem-Dawki road is close to the regulated area declared under the Ancient Monuments and Archeological sites and Remains (Amendment and validation) Act, 2010. The Thlu-muwi stone bridge, which was constructed 500 years ago by one of the Jaintia kings, may disappear if precautions are not taken by concerned authorities.

JOWAI: Education Minister Dr RC Laloo launched five public services buses sponsored under the 13th Finance Commissioner Award 2010-11 and implemented by the Jowai Municipal Boaord was launched at Circuit House Jowai on Monday.

Along with the Education Minister, the JHADC Chief Executive Member, Lamdibok Sumer, the Officer on Special Duty, Urban Affair, T Lyngwa, the Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner besides other senior government officers, representative of localities and prominent residents of Jowai were also present during the launching program.

SHILLONG:The 13th Finance Commission has awarded 23 public buses to the State which would be introduced in four districts and a Civil Sub-Division.

Official sources on Thursday informed that out of the 23 public buses, ten buses will be stationed in Tura, five in Jowai, four in Williamnagar and two each in Baghmara and Resubelpara.
