Bangalore: Karnataka, which has been facing a power shortage for the past two years, will have four new gas-based power projects along the route of the Dabhol-Bangalore gas pipeline being executed by Gas Authority of India Ltd.

The State cabinet on Thursday gave its nod to prepare a detailed project report to set up three gas-based power generation plants with 700 MW capacity each along the proposed Dabhol-Bidadi gas pipeline project route.

The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) is planning to start the construction work of its proposed mega thermal power project at Kudgi in Bijapur district by the end of this year.

ENGINEERING AND construction major Larsen & Toubro plans to set up a 1,600 mega watt power plant in Karnataka, a top company official said.

Ind-Bharath Power (Karwar) Limited (IBPKL), has decided to construct a solar power project at Hanakon near Karwar.

The company had earlier shelved its proposed plan to set up a thermal power plant the same site.

The company in its affidavit before the National Environment Appellate Authority, here said that it planned to set up a 25 MW solar power project.
