Picture by Surajit Roy Malda, July 1: The expansion of NH34 from Barasat to Dalkhola will be completed by 2011, National Highways Authority officials said today. The stretch between Barasat in North 24 Parganas and Dalkhola in North Dinajpur will be widenend to four lanes. "Provisions are being kept to turn it into a six-lane road in future. The land acquisition is being made with an eye to achieving the goal,' said Srikumar Bhattacharya, the project director of the NHAI here.

Hyderabad, June 30: The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday granted an interim stay on the acquisition of railway properties between Tarnaka and Sangeet Crossroads. The Hyderabad Collector had issued a notification for the acquisition of these properties on the request of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation to lay an Inner Ring Road to ease traffic congestion on the stretch.

Whereas for the construction of Sawra Kuddu Hydro Electric Project besides the Government land, some private land is also to be acquired by the H.P. Power Corporation Limited. Due to acquisition of private land for the project, some families will be affected but only one family shall become land less.

Goa's Movement Against SEZs (GMAS) has questioned the move of the government to acquire huge tracts of land for allocation to educational institutions from India and abroad. This issue was discussed among others by GMAS, at a meeting held on Saturday. "Parting with nearly 40 lakh sq mt land for so-called higher educational commercial institutions appears to be another attempt to sell Goa to builders and land sharks from all over India and abroad', said a statement issued by GMAS.
