Hyderabad, July 22: The Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (Huda) is planning to go for another round of land acquisition. This time it is for the radial roads project, which connects the Inner Ring Road with the Outer Ring Road. These include the road from Rethi Bowli to AP Police Academy, Langar Houz to Gandipet and Biramalguda to Manneguda.

Land acquisition for special economic zones (SEZs) is stuck because of a year-old directive by the Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) that bars state governments from carrying out compulsory acquisition of land for the zones.

The EGoM in April 2007 had said that state governments cannot acquire land for SEZs, in the backdrop of protests in places like Nandigram in West Bengal, and Maharashtra.

Despite the overwhelming evidence of "immiserisation' due to displacement, numerous cases of resistance and the distortion of democratic processes, the neoliberal paradigm remains dominant in India.

Visakhapatnam July 17: The district collector, Mr Sanjay Kumar, told the officials to speed up the land acquisition procedures for various projects that are being coming up in the city.

THE Jharkhand cabinet on late Wednesday cleared the much-awaited rehabilitation & resettlement (R&R) policy. This paves the way for kicking off a spate of mega steel and power ventures that have been hanging fire for years. A significant feature of the R&R policy is that the investors will have to distribute 1% of the annual net profit of the project among affected families every year. Also, the requiring body (read: investor) will have to spend 1% of their annual net profit for community development.

Hyderabad, July 14: The South Central Railway and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation have flung accusations at each other before the High Court over the acquisition of railway properties for road widening between Tarnaka and Sangeet theatre in the city. The Special Deputy Collector for Land Acquisition in GHMC had issued a notification for acquiring railway properties on May 30 this year. The SCR challenged the notification and the High Court stayed the notification till further orders.
