PANJIM, MARCH 27 (HR) – Chief Minister Digambar Kamat will head the House Committee to look into the garbage dumping problems of Panjim and Margao.
The House, on Tuesday, had decided to appoint a House Committee in wake of the protests from the villagers of Bainguinim, Old Goa and the surrounding areas over the proposed waste treatment plant at Bainguinim.
The Green Goa Foundation has threatened to launch a public movement against the unhygienic conditions in Colmorod and neighbouring areas unless the sewage mess is cleared within a week.

Is disconnecting water supply to residential buildings an answer to discharge of sewage in storm water drains in the absence of an underground sewerage line?
This question has come to the fore a day after the Margao Civic body issued notices for disconnection of water supply to as many as seven buildings housing around 200 apartments.
Admitting that the Commercial Capital is sitting on an epidemic bomb due to rampant discharge of sewage in the storm water drains and nullahs, Margao Municipal Chairperson Savio Coutinho has said he would soon convene a meeting to find a solution, including suggestions to ban issuance of construction licenses till the underground sewerage system is put in place.
