Fifty-four hospitals were given show cause notices after they were found violating norms of bio-medical waste disposal last week, the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) said on Sunday.

The 46 sites of Ludhiana,
Moga and Faridkot were auctioned for six months, according to orders of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which had recently lifted
the ban on mining for this period.

Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Water Resources Pawan Kumar Bansal wrote a letter to Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Friday regarding the release of water to Chandigarh from the Phase V and VI of Kajauli. This comes as a fallout of the recent decision of the Punjab government to take up construction of Phase V and VI of Kajauli Waterworks exclusively for Mohali.

Mohali: PSEB claims saving 80 pc power

Three villages in Mohali district now use only Compressed Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs).

Officials of the Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) say this has led to the saving of power by 80 per cent. A 20 watt CFL provides light equivalent to 100 watt ordinary bulb, claim officials of the Board.

Mohali, September 07 Free land, Rs 2.5 crore for private school
The Punjab government has formulated a new scheme to improve the poor state of education in the state.

Under this scheme, the state government will provide free land and Rs 2.5 crore as capital investment to open a new school that would be run and managed by the private sector.

Punjab Chief Secretary Ramesh Inder Singh said this while addressing an exposition on rural education revolution organised by the Kalgidhar Trust of Baru Sahib in Mohali late on Saturday evening.
