Prime Minister Manmohan Singh last week asked road transport and highways minister CP Joshi to expedite award of highway projects to achieve the 20-km-a-day road construction target as soon as possible. However, Joshi is reported to have said the target would be met only by 2014.

With the Prime Minister stressing on the importance of improving connectivity in extremist-affected areas, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has drawn out a plan to invest Rs 10,000 crore on building four-lane highways in J&K.
