Once commissioned, the plant will add 1,600 Megawatt to the company's portfolio

Following its move to shift its flagship Gadarwara project from Odisha to Madhya Pradesh, power generator NTPC has crossed a major hurdle by securing the environment ministry’s approval for the Rs 11,640-crore power plant. Once commissioned, the project would add 1,600 Mw to the company’s portfolio.
As the ministry’s environment clearance was on the condition that the project be set up as a role model, NTPC has quickly moved to source equipment and fuel for the project.

To Provide 1,200 MW Addl Power

Lucknow: The power situation in the state is likely to improve a bit with two private sector power plants -- Rosa and Lanco -- getting operational to their full capacity. The UP Power Corporation Limited officials said that all the units of these two plants with combined stalled capacity of 2,400 MW were not working due to commercial dispute, ostensibly caused by non-payment of dues. With all the units of these two plants switched on now, the power situation would be eased out by 1200 MW.

NTPC will commence commercial operations of 1,500 MW Indira Gandhi Super Thermal Power Project at Jhajjar in Haryana after commissioning the third 500 MW unit on Friday.

Ministries of coal & power have sided with PSU power utilities

The much-touted plan to optimally distribute the higher cost of imported coal among power producers via a price-pooling mechanism with cheaper domestic coal may go haywire. While a host of large upcoming private power projects would have increased their viability under the proposed regime, two key administrative ministries — those of power and coal — have virtually sided with public-sector power utilities, who fear losing their current cost advantage if price-pooling is implemented.

Coming up with a Project Design Memorandum (PDM) document for setting up and demonstration of 800 MW coal-fired plant with Advanced Ultra Supercritical (AUSC) parameters was a major stride by BHEL Tiruchi in ‘Engineering and Technology’ during 2012-13.

BHEL has submitted to the Central government that the PDM it has prepared in association with National Thermal Power Corporation and Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research is capable of achieving a plant efficiency of 46 per cent, the highest so far in the world.

There is a variance of between 15% and 30% in the energy content of the coal supplied by Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) to NPTC’s thermal power stations at Farakka and Kahalgaon and the bill amou

60 power companies have signed FSAs while many have not signed citing varied reasons

The Coal Ministry has asked CIL to sign fuel supply pacts with the power generation companies, including NTPC, before finalising power purchase agreements with them.
"The Coal Ministry has directed Coal India Ltd (CIL) to sign Fuel Supply Agreement (FSA) with power companies, including NTPC, without waiting for PPAs (power purchase agreements)," a source close to the development told PTI.

After fertiliser, the power ministry has also opposed the recommendations made by the Rangarajan panel to increase domestic gas price from the current $4.2/mmbtu to $8.8/mmbtu, saying it will impact the power sector by about R46,360 crore annually.

The gas supplies to the sector have completely halted from the KG D6 block of Reliance Industries, which recently hit an all-time low of 15.5 mmscmd from a peak of 69.43 mmscmd in March 2010.

State-run power producer NTPC and Coal India (CIL) have agreed to begin third party sampling of coal from the state-run miner's collieries from Thursday.

Arup Roy Choudhury, CMD, NTPC Ltd inaugurated the commencement of Commercial operation of 5MW Solar Power Plant at NTPC Dadri on March 30.
