Orissa is going through a "steel revolution". In the past three years, the state government has signed more than 40 MoUs with companies, both domestic and foreign, signing off 20 billion tonnes of iron ore that it is supposed to be sitting on. THE Posco review panel on Monday submitted a "split verdict" on the South Korean steel maker's Orissa project. Although the dominant view was for revoking of environmental and coastal regulation zone clearances, government sources said that a reworking of the proposal could clear the way for the project.

State-owned Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) is in talks with South Korean steel major Posco and Japan's Kobe Steel for technology tie-ups to jointly set up steel plants, Parliament was informed today.
