PUNE: The city has failed to secure a spot in the Centre's 'Solar City' list, which was released last week.

A 8kv solar power generating plant, established at a cost of Rs 15.20 lakh, is already functional at Kuppanna Park in the city. It produces nearly 14,400 units of power per annum.

The government has approved a proposed master plan to develop 50 solar cities, for which master plans have been prepared for 46, an official statement said on Sunday.

Mahabubnagar in Telangana and Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh are among the 60 cities/towns proposed to be developed as ‘Solar/ Green Cities” across the country under a scheme launched by the Ministry
