When coordinated efforts are continuing throughout the world, especially in countries known for elephant-rearing, to fight the spread of tuberculosis among the pachyderms, owners of tamed elephants in Kerala are taking strong objection to reports on the disease.
THRISSUR: Two tuskers ran amok and blocked traffic on the NH-47 between Marathakkara, near here, and Chalakkudy for over 2 hours on Sunday. The incident created panic among the passengers who were stuck in various vehicles on the highway.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Around 14.52 percent of the total area in the state is prone to floods. Alappuzha district has been identified as the most flood-prone district and Idukki is the least flood-prone area.
The Matsya Keralam project in the state is aimed at increasing the annual production of freshwater fish in the state to 2 lakh tones per year from the present 75,000 tones, said Fisheries Minister S Sarma.
