NEW DELHI: State-owned Nuclear Power Corporation and Kazakh national atomic firm Kazatomprom are working on a uranium supply deal that may eventually see India's sole N-power firm set up its first overseas plant in joint venture in Central Asia's fastest-growing economy.

SHILLONG: Reiterating the urgent need for uranium supply to deal with the energy crisis in the country, the Centre on Tuesday claimed that negotiations with the Meghalaya Government on the issue of uranium mining were showing 'positive results' and that it was 'a matter of time' before Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL) went ahead with the project in West Khasi Hills.

Shillong: The Khasi Students Union (KSU) has strongly pursued its opposition against the proposed uranium mining in Meghalaya by submitting a representation with Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.

NEW DELHI: The UPA Cabinet on Friday revised the uranium royalty rate, an action that could benefit mineral-rich Meghalaya once uranium mining kicks off in the State.

In a decision that will result in substantial monetary gains for states having uranium reserves, the Government on Friday revised the royalty rates for the mining of uranium according to the recommendations of a study group.
