The District Magistrate, Jalaun, Uttar Pradesh and Executive Officer, Nagar Panchayat, Kadaura was directed by the NGT to take remedial action for the restoration of the main pond (Sadar Bazar) of Kadaura town. They were also asked to appear in person on the next date (October 11, 2022) with their action taken reports.

There is no sewerage network in Jajmau, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh where all the tannery units are situated. Thus, untreated domestic sewage generated from Jajmau area also gets mixed with industrial effluent that goes through the conveyance channel into CETP.

Submissions by Amicus Curiae regarding water pollution by tanneries at Jajmau, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh and water pollution at Raniaa, Kanpur Dehat and Rakhi Mandi, Kanpur Nagar, Uttar Pradesh. Cumulative impact assessment as well as carrying capacity of industrial areas (Kanpur - Unnao belt) must be considered and undertaken before granting permission for setting up of any water polluting unit in the Ganga river basin.

The matter has been taken up suo motu on the basis of a media report of death of 12 persons and injury to 13 persons in a factory fire at Ruhi Industries, Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, operating in violation of environmental norms. The incident took place, June 4, 2022.
