The NGT (Eastern Zone Bench), Kolkata directed the District Magistrate, Purba Bardhaman, West Bengal to take all necessary steps for removal of encroachments from waterbodies in mouza Baidyadanga, under Memari-I block, Rasulpur, within one month. The area should be restored to its original form as waterbody and steps taken for removal of water hyacinths, the judgment of the NGT, July 01, 2022 said.

The NGT in its order of August 6, 2020 had directed the CPCB and the West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB) to carry out a carrying capacity study in the state with specific preference to areas where the brick fields are concentrated within a period of three months. But the report has not yet been filed.

The West Bengal Pollution control Board, has prayed for an order approving the proposed compressive plan for utilisation of the money deposited as penalty with the State Board. It is submitted that this pertain to only 7 districts viz. North 24 Parganas, Howrah, Paschim Midnapur, Bankura, Purulia, Burdwan and Birbhum. The total amount proposed to be utilised is Rs. 20,08,37,500.
