Mumbai Anita, the 22-year-old purebred Gir lioness at the Byculla Zoo, has been critically ill and under continuous medical surveillance for the past 10 days, zoo veterinarians said on Thursday.

Visakhapatnam, April 26: The forest minister, Mr Ramachandra Reddy, will release three white tiger cubs and a swamp deer for public viewing at a function to be held at the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park on Tuesday. The zoo park visitors who so far witnessed a single white tiger only in the enclosure can now witness four from Tuesday.

KOLKATA: Snow leopards at the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park in Darjeeling will now be filmed through the day with infra-red camera installed in their enclosures for studying their behaviour, particularly during the night.

Two female captive elephants of Byculla Zoo, Laxmi and Anarkali, may soon be free of their enclosure measuring 4,000 square feet to roam in the dense forests of Chhattisgarh, giving a ride to forest officials on patrol duty.

On Monday, the elephants had a visitor from Chhattisgarh, conservator of forests, Bilaspur, Anil Sahu.
