A day after Dombivli received “green rain”, environmentalists said the incident points to a larger pollution problem in the Mumbai metropolitan region and other areas in the state.

“The deposition of green water in and around MIDC area of Dombivli seems to be a case of pollution manifesting itself. Pollutants in the air may have reacted with rainwater; thus reducing air pollution, but adding to water and soil pollution,” said environmental consultant Laxmikant Deshpande.
