India has sanctioned Rs 267-crore Railway project linking Agartala with Akhaura in Bangladesh to facilitate easier surface communication between the Northeast region and Kolkata, official sources said.

The 15-km railway track will link Agartala with Bangladesh’s southeastern city of Akhaurah, also an important railway junction connecting the Chittagong port, resource-rich Sylhet and Dhaka.
