Order of the Supreme Court of India regarding pollution caused to Kasardi river in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, 05/03/2019
Order of the Supreme Court of India in the matter of Taloja CETP Cooperative Society Ltd. Vs The Ministry of Environment and Forest and Climate Change & Others dated 05/03/2019 regarding pollution caused to Kasardi river in Navi Mumbai by industries from Taloja industrial belt.
In this application the applicant has made the following prayers:
(i) Direct the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board and/or Monitoring Committee to identify the defaulting industrial units in a time bound manner
(ii) Direct the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board and/or Monitoring Committee to apportion the amount of fine payable by each defaulting industrial unit in a time bound manner.
The National Green Tribunal on 17/08/2018 had directed Taloja common effluent treatment plant (CETP) Co-operative Society Limited to pay Rs 10 crore as environmental compensation. SC gives two weeks time to Taloja CETP Co-operative Society to collect the amount of fine from its members and deposit the same with the appropriate authorities.
