Good practices in community based disaster risk management

The GOI-UNDP Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Programme envisages accelerating capacity development for disaster reduction at the national level and in some of the most-vulnerable regions in the country through community-based and gender sensitive approaches. It is designed to assist some of the most multi-hazard prone
states such as Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Delhi, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Orissa, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttaranchal,Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal. The thematic focus being on awareness generation
and education, training and capacity building for mitigation and better preparedness in terms of disaster risk management at community, district and state levels, and strengthening of state and district emergency operations centers for accurate and timely dissemination of warning. UNDP has strived to provide
specialized support to Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to set up the institutional and administrative system for comprehensive disaster risk management.
