India energy security vision 2022 - From scarcity to abundance

India's key energy challenges include but not limited to: (1) increasing domestic production of primary fuels; (2) securing necessary imports of primary fuels at relatively stable prices; (3) attracting investment across all segments of the energy sector; (4) investing in new energy technologies; (5) reducing the carbon intensity of energy use and lowering local pollution; (6) increasing access
to modern energy to the marginalised sections of the society; and (7) diversifying the primary fuel basket to increase energy security. Out of these, the first is the most important and most immediate concern in the short to medium term, particularly in the context of oil, gas and coal that account for over 93 percent of commercial energy use in India. This report will focus on this issue.
