A text on other issues outlined in document FCCC/KP/AWG/2008/8

The United Nations took a step towards a new climate treaty on 15th May by publishing the first draft negotiating texts to help bridge a "great gulf" between options for rich nations to cut greenhouse gas emissions.

This document also laid out choices on controversial issues such as nuclear power, emissions trading, forests, shipping or aviation in a new UN global warming pact due to be agreed in Copenhagen in December.

The Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol, at its seventh session, requested its Chair to prepare a text

This document presents text on other issues outlined in the report on its resumed sixth session in the form of decision language, covering the following issues: emissions trading and the project-based mechanisms; land use, land-use change and forestry; greenhouse gases, sectors and source categories; common metrics to calculate the carbon dioxide equivalence of anthropogenic emissions by sources and removals by sinks; and methodological and other issues. Proposals for amendments to the Kyoto Protocol relating to some of these issues have been submitted by a number of Parties. These proposals are compiled, as submitted by Parties, in a separate annex.
