“Nature-based solutions” (NbS) have been defined as “actions to protect, sustainably manage and restore natural or modified ecosystems that address societal challenges…”. The societal challenge to which NbS are most commonly applied at present is the mitigation of climate change.

This current draft policy paper by CANSA is meant to stimulate discussion among the member groups of CANSA, and in the process to develop and provide a common platform for lobbying and advocacy efforts at national, regional (SAARC), and international levels in the context of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
