No DPR Even A Year After Mooting The Project To Enhance Water Supply In The City

There’s very little that the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) has learnt from the acute shortage of drinking water faced by the city over the years. While the demand-supply gap is over 120 million litres a day (MLD) and growing, the KWA has failed to complete the detailed project report (DPR) of a plan to streamline water supply to the city and adjoining areas mooted a year ago.

Environmental Impact Study Was Awarded By KMRL Only Recently

Even as the work on Kochi Metro rail is progressing as per schedule, authorities are still in the dark about the environmental impact of the project. While environmental impact assessment (EIA) must be done before starting the project, the Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) has only completed tender procedures for conducting the EIA recently.

Consultant Appointed To Automate Buildings And Campus

In order to ensure stateof-the-art automated buildings and IT campus for SmartCity, Kochi, Tecom, the promoters of the project, has decided to prepare a digital master plan which will act as a blue print of the digital network system coordinating various operations. Two Four-Lane Highways Connecting Karimugal & MC Road Planned

Kochi:With work on the longdelayed SmartCity gathering steam, areas east of Kochi, including Kizhakkambalam, Muvattupuzha, Perumbavoor, Kolenchery and Kothamangalam, among others, will get a huge development push. Three four-lane highways have been proposed by the public works department (PWD) from the project site to ensure smooth access to SmartCity. Two of these have been proposed on the eastern side of the project area.

Kochi: In a major drive against pollution testing centres, the motor vehicles department (MVD) has closed down around 20 such centres in the district for not having valid licences to operate. The MVD has also found that around 80% of the 200-odd centres in the district were issuing fake licences.

Due to laxity of the department in conducting regular checking, the state government had given strict instructions to take action against erring firms. The department had avoided conducting such drives citing staff shortage.
