The number of dengue deaths has passed 127 and counting. The affected persons have exceeded 9000. In 2005 the number of patients that died from dengue was 28 while there were 5994 dengue patients.

The WHO commended the Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry for very successful handling of first AH1N1 (Swine Flu) cases. The Ministry took all possible steps and managed the situation within 24 hours and acted quickly.

A consignment of drugs (Oseltamivir) required for Swine Flu treatment arrived in Sri Lanka in response to a request from Healthcare and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva. The consignment contains 15,000 capsules for the use of adults and 240 bottles of syrup for children and 2000 N 95 masks, a Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry spokesman said.

Sri Lanka has almost eradicated Malaria and no Malaria deaths have been reported during last three years. It has also resulted in an unprecedented 99 per cent decrease in the reported incidence of Malaria during the last 10 years.
