VADODARA: Eight cases of dengue were reported in the city on Wednesday. The number of cases has gone down significantly as compared to around 20 reported daily earlier, VMC officials said.

Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has set up an oxygen factory on Sun Pharma Road in the city. The factory, however, is no industrial plant, but a plantation of trees – including the banyan tree after which the city is named – that generate high amounts of oxygen.

In the first experiment of its kind, VMC has planted 236 banyan trees and 70 peepal trees in the one hectare land besides the main road. These include 32 banyan trees that were planted about six years ago. The remaining trees were planted two years ago.

Vadodara: The World Heritage Site of Champaner-Pavagadh is home to a heritage of the avian kind. The tough terrain of Pavagadh mountain is home to threatened vultures and nine of them were spotted in the two-day census exercise conducted by GEER Foundation and forest department.

The teams also monitored a place where the vultures nest in the cliffs during the exercise that ended on Sunday. While officials said the number of vultures spotted at the location are equal to those spotted earlier, they are worried about the fact that only one Egyptian vulture or Khero Gidh that is white-backed was spotted in the mountain valleys.
