The WorldRiskReport (WRR) 2023 examines the complex interrelationship between crises, marginalized groups, and the diverse structure of societies. Diversity plays a significant role in how disaster risk is distributed within a society.

The WorldRiskIndex 2022 assesses the disaster risk for 193 countries. This covers all UN-recognized countries and over 99 percent of the world's population. With this year's focus on digitalization, the report highlights changes brought about by digital technologies in disaster preparedness and response, as well as associated risks.

Focusing on social protection, the new WorldRiskReport is released and presented by Bündnis Entwicklung Hilft and the Institute for International Law of Peace and Armed Conflict (IFHV) of the Ruhr University Bochum. The Covid-19 pandemic, wildfires, and floods have recently made clear how crucial social protection against existential risks is.

With record breaking high temperatures around the world and increasing droughts, climate change exacerbates water supply problems and thus increases the vulnerability of societies. These are the findings of the World Risk Report 2019 focused on water supply.

The WorldRiskIndex states the risk of an extreme natural event leading to a disaster in 171 countries. The five-year-analysis shows that the disaster risk global hotspots are in Central America, West and Central Africa, Southeast Asia and Oceania.
