In a bid to ensure the orderly and sustainable development of aquaculture along India’s coastlines, the Coastal Aquaculture Authority has introduced comprehensive guidelines.

The Centre has introduced new guidelines for solid waste management in coastal aquaculture units to promote sustainable practices in the aquaculture sector. These instructions delineate protocols spanning from waste handling to prohibiting its burning.

The Central Government has announced the Coastal Aquaculture Authority Rules, 2024. These rules have replaced the Coastal Aquaculture Authority Rules, 2005. They introduce comprehensive guidelines and procedures for the regulation of coastal aquaculture units and activities.

The Government has recently introduced the Draft Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Rules, 2023, with the aim of strengthening animal welfare efforts across the country.

The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying (MoFAHD) on June 07, 2023, issued a notification regarding inviting comments/ suggestions on the Draft Live-Stock and Live-Stock Products [Importation and Exportation] Bill, 2023.

The Centre has released the draft Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act (Amendment) Bill 2022 for public comment. In the draft legislation, it has proposed to introduce 61 amendments to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act 1960. The draft Bill has included bestiality as a crime under the new category of gruesome cruelty.

The National Fisheries Policy 2020 would offer a strategized way forward to develop, harness, manage and regulate capture and culture fisheries in a responsible and sustainable manner.

The present publication of Basic Animal Husbandry Statistics-2019 is framed based mainly on the outcomes of the Integrated Samples Survey for the period 1st March 2018 to 28th February, 2019. The Survey is conducted in the entire rural/urban areas of States/UTs.
