This report reveals that the number of food insecure people, lacking reliable access to sufficient quantity of nutritious food, has increased by almost 10% in 2020, compared with the data provided at the same time last year.

According to the Southern African Development Community (SADC) 2019 Synthesis Report on the State of Food and Nutrition Security and Vulnerability in Southern Africa, 41.2 million people in 13 countries are estimated to be food insecure in the 2019/20 year.

This document provides a regional assessment of food security and vulnerability for SADC member countries, and aims to synthesise national level vulnerability assessments, facilitate discussions and a shared vision for reducing vulnerability, and discuss emerging trends in vulnerability assessments.
