MARGAO: One of the recommendations Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) made in 2012 after inspection of the stone crushers around the Sao Jose de Areal-Sarzora, Dramapur belt was that the roads within the stone crushing area should be tarred and asphalted.

Moreover, the Board had recommended tree plantation within the periphery of the crushers as a precautionary measure.

A team of experts from the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) began inspections of 47 stone crushers in the vicinity of the villages of Dramapur, Sarzora and Sao Jose de Areal on Wednesday.

On crucial issue about Special Economic Zone, Goa Governor Bharat Vir Wanchoo on Monday said the government will attempt to unlock the land allocated as ‘SEZs’ for immediate commercial activity.

The Governor in his address on Day One of the Budget session of Goa legislative assembly said, “Due to limited land mass, the efforts of my government would be to make utmost use of available land judiciously, so that economic returns on such lands are justified.

The state government has decided not to permit resumption of mining in the state until the findings of the public accounts committee and Shah Commission report are adequately dealt with.

Chief minister Manohar Parrikar on Sunday laid foundation stones for two water treatment plants-the 71crore 27MLD Opa water treatment plant and the 115crore 25MLD Ganjem water treatment plant.
