Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of In re: news report appearing in Express News Service dated14.09.2023 titled“Ramakkallake in TN polluted & emits foul smell, residents demand rejuvenation”. The application was registered on the basis of a news item published in the New Indian Express, September 14, 2023 which stated that pollution level has arisen in the Ramakkal lake with a foul smell causing distress to the nearby residents.

Implementation of Solid Waste Management Rules 2016 and Plastic Waste Management Rules 2016 has been enforced in the Erode City Municipal Corporation. The target of 100 per cent processing and disposal of wet waste, dry waste and construction and demolition waste has been achieved. In addition, bio-mining in Vendipalayam and Vairapalayam dumping yard has been completed.

Order of the Madras High Court regarding relocation of Thengumarahada village in the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve, Tamil Nadu.

The court said that the guidelines for preparation of the Tiger Conservation Plan itself mandates relocation of human settlements affecting the core area of tiger reserves. The Supreme Court in Ajay Dubey -Vs- National Tiger Conservation Authority (2012 13 SCC 782) has been passing orders mandating the implementation of the guidelines issued by the National Tiger Conservation Authority, said the order.

The Madras High Court directed the Neyveli Lignite Corporation to pay compensation at the rate of Rs 40,000 per acre to farmers whose standing crops were damaged during Paravanar Canal Diversion activities at Valayamadevi in Cuddalore district.

Acting on a complaint that dyeing units are discharging waste water without any treatment into Thirumanimutharu river, Salem district, Tamil Nadu, the NGT directed submission of a factural report from the authorities. The court ordered constitution of a joint committee comprising Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board, the Central Pollution Control Board, regional office Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Chennai and the District Magistrate Salem.

Order of the National Green Tribunal (Southern Zone, Chennai) in the matter of Kannappan Vs The Tamil Nadu Coastal Zone Management Authority & Others dated 28/04/2023.

Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation was directed by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) to remove the constructions put by them without any clearance from Mudaliyarkuppam village, Cheyyur taluk, Chengalpattu district of Tamil Nadu. The constructions included toilets, compound walls along the banks of the Tazhuthali Kuppam estuary in the area between the water body and the sea.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of 'News item published in Newspaper The Times of India dated 07.03.2023 titled “Oil leaked in Tamil Nadu’s Nagai spreading along coast, say experts' dated 28/03/2023.

The National Green Tribunal directed constitution of a joint committee to see whether any remedial measures are required to contain the damage to the water due to incident of oil spill which took place in Tamil Nadu along the coast in district Nagapattinam. The incident took place, March 2, 2023.

The Tamil Nadu government was directed by the National Green Tribunal, southern zone, Chennai to publish the new rules and guidelines related to sewage management in newspapers to make the people aware of the same.

The court said that the departments concerned should strictly follow and implement the rules to bring under control the problem of sewage water being illegally disposed of.

The matter related to a unit operating in a residential area and dealing with various kinds of acids and industrial chemicals in Chettiar Agaram village, Chennai district.

Judgment of the Supreme Court of India in the matter of Association of Vasanth Apartment's Owners Vs V Gopinath & Others dated 13/02/2023.

The matter is related to 'open space regulation area' (OSR) in developed plots. Justice K M Joseph and Justice Pamidighantam Sri Narasimha said that the areas covered by the OSR cannot be diverted for any other purpose.
