Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) has roped in ‘Mr Muthu’ to create awareness among and allay fears of people staying around Koodankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP).

‘Mr Muthu’ is a mascot, possibly inspired by a famous movie character played by superstar Rajinikanth.

Dry conditions cause concern

With dry conditions becoming a source of concern at the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR) near Udhagamandlam, a proposal has been sent to the government to close it. Deputy Director, MTR, Ameer Haja, told the The Hindu on Wednesday that a detailed report with inputs from Range Officers had been submitted to the Field Director, MTR Raghuram Singh. It had been sent by the Field Director to the Chief Wildlife Warden along with a recommendation to close the reserve.

The plant has the most advanced reactor; safety design is sound

The Kundankulam plant has the most advanced reactor and operations and the safety design adopted is sound with “excellent regulations”, R. The Madras High Court has set aside a notification of July last year seeking to acquire lands measuring 2 acres and 47 cents belonging to the Sri Venkateswara Educational and Charitable Trust here at Mathur village in Tiruvannamalai district.
