NEW DELHI:The Centre has agreed to provide an additional 8.63 million cubic metres of natural gas a day (mcmd) to Andhra Pradesh and with this, the State's requirement of 18 mcmd has been met, according to Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister .

April 8: The Central government has given clearance for expansion of the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), Ramagundam unit. Construction of the eight and ninth units at 500 mw each is likely to begin in the near future and authorities have prepared plans to complete the project by 2013.

March 29: A handful of apartment complexes have installed the reticulated system (in-built pipe lines for LPG distribution) in the city and in other major cities such as Hyderabad. As per the reticulated system, the LPG will be provided to individual households in an apartment complex.

Eight years after N Chandrababu Naidu scrapped the free power supply scheme to the farm sector and paid the price, the ruling Congress government is under pressure to do the same or at least regulate power supply so that other sectors are not affected. A group of experts from the World Bank is to meet state government officials and review reforms in departments such as municipal administration, power, public distribution system and irrigation projects.

More than 2 lakh small and medium industries in the state will have shorter power cuts from Monday. The four hour cut between 6 pm and 10 pm has been withdrawn with immediate affect.

THE government will bid out at least two ultra mega power projects (UMPPs) of 4000mw each in April 2010 to make up for the slippage in power capacity addition in previous years, a senior power ministry official said.

Visakhapatnam, March 8: The north coastal Andhra would soon becoming the epicentre of power projects with as many as 17 projects in private sector and a nuclear power project in the public sector, generating 19,000 mega watts in the next couple of years.
