THE government will bid out at least two ultra mega power projects (UMPPs) of 4000mw each in April 2010 to make up for the slippage in power capacity addition in previous years, a senior power ministry official said.

Visakhapatnam, March 8: The north coastal Andhra would soon becoming the epicentre of power projects with as many as 17 projects in private sector and a nuclear power project in the public sector, generating 19,000 mega watts in the next couple of years.

Andhra Pradesh, which is facing power shortage of at least 20 to 25 million units daily, finds itself out of the "corridors of power", literally, as its two neighbouring states Tamil Nadu and Karnataka have left no space in the seamless grid.

Hyderabad, Feb. 15: The Central government has increased the share of Orissa and Tamil Nadu in Ultra Mega Power Projects (UMPP) whereas a request made by Andhra Pradesh for the same has not been considered.

ANANTAPUR, Feb. 3: The Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (APIIDC) has decided to set up a solar city, at Kadiri in Anantapur district, with an outlay of Rs 3,000 crore in 5,000 acres.
The APIIDC managing director, Mr B.P. Acharya, had announced setting up of a solar city at Kadiri, in October last year.

Hyderabad, Feb. 1: The Power Finance Corporation has decided to build its second Ultra Mega Power Project (UMPP) in the state. The 4,000 MW project would be constructed at Nayanapalli in Vetapalem mandal in Prakasam district. With this, the state has attracted nearly 20,000 MW capacity in less than five years.
