I represent the Forum for Better Visakha (FBV) based at Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. We have been active for quite sometime in highlighting the meaning of "development" as perceived by the local communities. Hyderabad, Sept. 27: A long pending proposal to construct a power project exclusively for Hyderabad city will soon be a reality. The Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, has agreed to revive the Sankarapalli power project which was kept in cold storage for years.

Chennai: Lanco Infratech is making a big push into the power sector to increase its topline growth. It has plans to set up coal-fired mega super-critical thermal power plants in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today made a strong pitch for augmenting power generation in the country to achieve high economic growth rate on a sustainable basis.

India needs to bridge the gap between demand and supply of electricity and provide affordable power to industry and agriculture to ensure sustained economic growth, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said Wednesday.

The historic 418-year-old monument is soaked due to spells of heavy rains every night since last Sunday, and parts of the minarets that are carved in lime-mortar paste broke loose.

For the past five years Hyderabad has been trying to clean the Hussain Sagar Lake, separating the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad in Andhra Pradesh. The efforts suffered yet another blow on June 20 when the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) denied permission to dredge the mouths of four nalas releasing waste water into the lake and to dispose it of at a nearby quarry.
