BHUBANESWAR: The aluminium major NALCO today signed a memorandum of understanding with the State Government for establishment of an aluminium park at Angul.

The proposed park will be a joint venture of the NALCO and the Orissa Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO) and it will be close to the smelter plant. The estimated project cost of the aluminium park is Rs 75 crore.

BHUBANESWAR: The Centre has zeroed in on 24 industrial clusters across the country which have reached the threshold of their environmental carrying capacity and plans to intervene.

BHUBANESWAR: With monsoon playing truant and hot dry winds from the desert plains fuelling the summer heat, Bhubaneswar turned into a burning cauldron on Monday recording 44.6 degrees Celsius, highest for the season and 10 degrees above normal. Such was the condition that denizens complained of burning sensation during the peak hours. Only a day before, Bhubaneswar recorded 43 degrees Celsius.

ANGUL: The Rs 22.21 crore piped-water supply scheme for 41 Talcher villages has run into rough weather due to a tug of war between the State agencies and the funding agency, the Mahanadi Coalfield Limited (MCL).

ANGUL: In comparison to about seven per cent growth of Coal India Limited, its flagship company Mahanadi Coalfield Limited (MCL) has posted a growth of 9.46 per cent in the 2008-09. However, it could not achieve its revised target of 104 million tonne (MT) fixed by the Coal Ministry due to various factors.

ANGUL: The eco-tourism introduced at Satkosia forest region has yielded a record income of Rs 5.88 lakh in the current year. The nature camps at Tikarpara, a prominent tourist centre, was opened to tourists from November 7 to March 30 this year.

It attracted about 50,000 tourists both from the State and abroad. An estimated 5,000 four-wheelers have been registered at the gate this year.

BHUBANESWAR: As the rapid industrialisation process needs more and more mining activities, here is a warning from an eminent environmentalist. If we indiscriminately resort to mining without restraint, then perhaps there will be imbalance in nature and with the industrial pollution adding to it, might contribute towards more climate change factors.
