BHUBANESWAR: The State Government today approved a special plan for the seven pollution zones in Orissa identified by the Orissa State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB).

ANGUL: The elephants of Mahanadi elephant reserve have been wreaking havoc in some pockets of Angul district after their corridors have been restricted by the Rengali canal, Samal barrage and Rengali dam.

BHUBANESWAR: The State Government has sought Rs 1,805 crore for Orissa in the 2010-11 railway budget. In its memorandum submitted to the Centre, the Government demanded Rs 790 crore for the ongoing projects for their early completion.

Several ongoing projects have assumed significance in view of the rapid industrialisation of the State.

BHUBANESWAR: With half of the districts reeling from drought effect, an inter-ministerial Central team will arrive in Orissa tomorrow for spot assessment of the situation.

Led by Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture Atanu Purukayasth, the 10-member team would mostly be visiting western and northern districts of the State over the next three days.

A team of high level officials including the chairman of the Orissa State Pollution Control Board and the additional secretary of the state steel and mines department would visit the Ananta open cast mine on Sunday.

A huge fire has been raging at this coal mine since Wednesday which is under the command area of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), putting the company authorities in a spot.

ANGUL: The core committee for fly ash utilisation of Angul district has decided to use void coal mine and low-lying areas across the district to dump huge quantity of dry ash generated from the power plants in the district.

Six districts in the State, where power is generated, have formed their respective core committees on fly ash utilisation.

BHUBANESWAR: The State Government is contemplating to set up a special economic zone (SEZ) at Gopalpur in Ganjam district to create employment opportunities for 30,000 youths.
